I had been posting my journal on the "losing weight" link, which I still love, but I tend to be reading more posts pertaining to my own situation here, so I thought I might begin a new journal and continue my entries here now. I've been using my nickname "Liz", but since there is a Liz here already, I'll just use my full name of Elizabeth.

The program I've been using is to eat from hungry to full, eating all the foods I crave and enjoy. Heaven knows I don't do "diets" very well, so this program is working for me, but I am losing weight VERY slowly and keep gaining and losing the same five pounds over and over again. This has been driving me crazy, so I've decided to try a new approach.

For several years now, I've heard about the "no white diet", well, I found a link this morning that explains it in pretty simple terms. I guess there are different approaches to this diet, but I really like the description of it that I found at this link: http://ezinearticles.com/?The-No-White-Foods-Diet&id=160033 I think this way of eating sounds a lot healthier than what I've been doing. I'm so excited to start this new way of eating today and feel that it's something I can stick to.

I'm also going to start cooking better for my family, overall. I plan on buying a "basket" steamer this evening when I do my errand running and I'm going to start steaming my vegetables instead of cooking the nutrients out of them, as we tend to do here in the South! ;-) I want to get the most nutritional value I can out of the foods I cook from now on.

I'm really excited about trying something new! I can't wait to start seeing some results on the scales and in how my clothes fit and I feel sure I will see a difference soon!

Since I keep losing/gaining lately, I don't think I'm going to make my October goal of 211, but that's okay, because I know I'll get this weight off eventually and I feel totally motivated today!

I'm so excited this morning! I lost a couple of the pounds I had gained back. I feel so motivated today!

I went shopping last night and bought healthy foods. My son bought a steamer for me where his friend works yesterday evening, but accidently left it behind! lol I can't wait to get it and use it! I bought fresh broccoli, sweet potatoes (instead of white), 100% whole wheat bread, 1% milk and so on and am looking forward to cooking healthier, including steaming our vegetables, instead of cooking out all the nutrients like I have for years.

I cooked a healthy meal yesterday and didn't know if it would go over or not! lol But turned out we all enjoyed it! I wish I had decided to cook healthy years ago. Maybe I wouldn't be where I am today! But, hindsight is 20/20 and I can only move forward from where I am now!

As I wrote yesterday, I started the "no white diet" and I do feel that it has contributed to my weight loss. I think this is the one that is going to work for me. I've tried so many different things over the years, but I think I've finally found a way to eat healthy that will actually work but won't leave me feeling deprived!

After losing a couple of those regained pounds this morning, I feel so confident that maybe I will reach my goal of 211 by the end of the month. That's only two pounds left to lose. I know my weight has been on a rollercoaster for a while now, but I feel sure this "no white" thing is what's going to work for me! We shall see!

As for this moment..I am more motivated than I have been in a VERY long time and losing those two pounds has brightened my morning considerably! I feel like I can conquer the world today!! :-)

WOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!!!!  Elizabeth, I LOOOOVE the energy in your posts!!!  Congratulations on losing those pounds this morning and keep that energy strong!  Trust me, it will carry you a loooooong way.  When being healthy is a strong priority, you want to do things and make choices that are best for your body, and I definitely agree that switching to "non-white" foods (more so the solids/starches) are making those healthy choices and putting you steps closer to better health.  I really am so happy for you and I know you will continue to succeed!  Keep believing in you!  :o)

Angie, thanks so much for the words of encouragement! More power to the person who figured out how the glycemic index works! lol This is a way of eating that I feel I could turn into a permanent lifestyle change. You are so encouraging! I am so psyched! lol Thanks! :-) Congrats again to you! I look forward to following YOUR progress!

I'm thrilled to say that I am back down to the 212 I was at three days ago. My weight shot up to 216 overnight. It must have been some water weight, I don't know, but I'm bad to fluctuate on the scales, anyway. I'm just glad to be back down again and I haven't been 212 in a VERY long time. My mini goal was to get to 211 by November first, but I think I'm going to up it a pound to 210. I'm being pretty conservative here, but I want to make my goals as realistic as I can so I don't get discouraged. I sure don't mind losing slowly either, if it'll mean keeping the weight off for good!

For breakfast, I had a leftover sweet potato, 1 scrambled egg and an 8 oz. glass of 1% milk this morning. I had heard on "biggest loser" that you should have at least 1 protein with each meal, I guess to counteract the carbs? That's the only reason I can figure.

Anyway, I never knew how good sweet potatoes are for you, until I found this website yesterday. I'm going to post a link here, in case any of you might like to look up a certain food. This site gives you invaluable information on healthy foods, how they may fight certain cancers, how much of each vitamin is in each food, if it's considered an excellent source, very good source, and so on of each vitamin. I think it's just a wonderful site, so here is the link: http://www.whfoods.com/foodstoc.php

Off to get the day started now!
