I have never had a problem losing weight, and my weapon has always been low carb or atkins. However, i have been trying to lose weight since January and I've done nothing but gain. I stopped the low carb because it made me feel gross to eat only meat, but i have carefully monitored my calorie intake.

I'm 5'6 and work out on and off but in the past month i have spent 1.5 to 2 hours a day in the gym. I lost 3 lbs by eating 1200 calories a day. This weekend, I went off my diet for 3 days only but still worked out. I got back on Track Tuesday. This morning I got on the scale and had gained 6 lbs.

I'm 24. Why havent i been able to lose weight any more? Why do i gain this much every time i have a "cheat" day? I'm going to the Dr to get tested for hypothyroidism and gluten allergy because i really refuseto belive this happens to other people....

My other symptoms include: constant fatigue, depression, lack of concentration, forgetfulness and unexplained acne.

:(

ok i'm not a doctor, but as far as the weight gain goes, i think you should be happy. it means you're toning up :] at 115 i started working out 2-3 hours a day plus a 1200-1500 cal/day diet and in just over 2 weeks i was up to 126. my whole body was firmer and i was more in shape than ever before. after 2-4 more weeks, the initial weight gain was gone and i was back down to 120. you have to gain before you shed, at least that's what i've always been taught in my nutrition classes.

thanks for the reply. that would make me feel better if i hadnt been in the gym up to 2 hours. I really find it hard to believe that all this time in the gym and barely eating could result in 7-10 lbs. I know that it's absolutely not possible to gain that much muscle in a short time.

Okay, I'm not a doctor either but eating just 1200 cals./day when you're working out every day sounds dicey to me, especially since you are feeling fatigued at the end of the day. 1200 cal./day is supposed to be almost starvation level. Could it be that your body is operating on starvation mode and lowering your metabolism rate? Perhaps you should see a nutritionist about this. Just a thought.
