Hello. I have been dealing with a lot of drama and stress the past month or so at college and managed to put on a good 10 pounds. I feel so bad and gross...I go up and down a lot, I binge and then diet over and over again when i go home. The thing is, I'm going home in about two weeks and have to see friends, family, and a lot of people and I would like to lose these ten pounds. I've done atkins before for 2 weeks at a time but I have started and retarted so many times..the food is yummy but I know I can stick to it till I go home starting now but since I started so many times, will it work well anymore? I know how to eat healthy so i basically just need a fast fix for these two weeks till I go home and eat healthy again.; Should I eat all broccoli, one meal a day and tons of crystal light and diet coke, atkins? I want ten pounds gone. oh and I'll go to the gym. Someone help with these pounds. I don't want to even leave my room and go to class..or see my friends..I'm depressed

First, yo-yo dieting, which is what you have been doing is bad for your health and makes it harder each time to lose the weight. If you lose 10 pounds in two weeks most of it will be water, not fat. The most fat you should lose is 1 to 2 pounds per week. Unless you make a lifestyle change you won't keep the weight off because diets don't work.

I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but my advice would be to cut calories, get more exercise and drink more water. It's the only way to safely lose the weight.

Welcome, tunatartar!  :)

Susanne gave some excellent advice to you!   I am sorry you are feeling so depressed right now, trust me, I know how that feels.  However, realize that the more stress you put yourself under, the harder it will be for you to get focused and lose the weight you want to lose.   I think the first thing you should do is let go of the feelings of guilt and embarassment, and how you think your family and friends are going to react.  What we perceive things to be usually is alot worse than it actually ends up being.  Besides, worrying about their reactions will serve you no useful purpose, you know?  It will just add to your stress.

Try starting slowly.  Exercise the way that you enjoy most, be it at the gym, going for walks, swimming, a favorite aerobic tape at home, you get the idea.  Eat well, avoid foods you know you will bring you trouble:  fast food, cookies, chips, sodas, etc.   Eat when you are hungry, stop when you are full (and by full, I don't mean to the point of bursting!)   Stay focused on you, be realistic, and how you feel, and those 10lbs will start to drop off.

We're here for you, so anytime on your journey towards weight loss you need a shoulder or someone to talk to, come on by!  :)

Good luck and best wishes!
Ginna
