These are the things that have recently inspired me to get back to living more intentionally re: health and fitness. What are yours? :)

1. A book about "a day in the life of" a whole bunch of women where this female surgeon is talking about operating on fat vs. lean people. Very eye-opening and really made me think about the layer of fat that is on my abdomen. Yuck! I'd like to be someone that a dr. wouldn't cringe to operate on!

2. Health article about Gillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser, she said that she struggles most with working out because she can control her weight with her eating. Frankly, I'm amazed that you could look that good (strong and lean, not just skinny) and not work out every day. That means I really could do more with my eating habits. (Size of portions, esp.) My tendency when I get serious about weight control is to exercise like a maniac until I reach or get close to my goal, and then I can't keep up the intensity. I need to learn to manage my eating better than I do now.

3. I was looking at pics from this summer next to pics from last fall and I can see now that really did gain. I can see it in my face. So first I need to lose the extra weight now, and then I need a better plan next summer -- with the kids home from school it became so much harder for me. I need to get up early and workout before DH leaves which is hard in the summer!

I saw Jillian Michaels on TV a few months ago and she seemed so genuine that I bought a couple of her DVDs and read one of her books.

I am trying to be good about what I eat (and how much) because, to be honest I fear the consequences if I don't (I'm re-diabetic). I wish that fear would translate into my being a more conscientious exerciser though...

I guess I've been inspired by the thought of being inspirational? Since I decided to train for a marathon, I've inspired 3 other people to do it with me and they have inspired others. When I think about them looking to me to encourage them and keep them going, I find myself feeling less than worthy of their attention. I guess I feel like I have to be doing everything right so that they can look at me and say, "I was right to follow her example." Does that even make sense? So, my motivation to eat better and treat my body well right now comes from feeling out of sync with the person I believe that I should be. I need to find that balance that makes me feel in tune with myself.
