When I was a little girl I loved Sindy, the European equivalent of Barbie. (IMO) Sindy has a little more class, and Barbie is a little more hip:

Barbie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbie

Sindy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sindy

This is actually quite a interesting blog post:

We know that the image of either of these dolls to young girls gives a similar one that models in magazines do-- Never Say Diet- broke down the measurements (of Barbie) and this is what they came up with...

I suppose that sometimes the fantasy is much better than the reality - I was never allowed to play with barbies as a little girl - my mom thought she was a bad role model, mostly because my mom was going through her granola mom phase. LOL I just thought she had cool clothes. :-)

I grew up with the black Barbie - I think her name was Christie! lol But I had the dream house, the sports car, the boat. I was DECKED OUT!

My daughter on the other hand can't stand dolls and has only had one baby doll her whole life which her brother played with!
