Would you take your 10 year old daughter in to have her legs or a bikini wax done? Apparently some are doing just that!

Philadelphia aesthetician Melanie Engle, whose specialty is eyebrow shaping, is no stranger to odd requests. But nothing prepared her for being asked by one client to book a bikini wax appointment for her 8-year-old daughter.

The first thing I had to do was try and stay calm, and not yell ‘What are you thinking?’ ” said Engle. “This wasn’t about the girl developing hair early — it was the mother’s obsession with wanting her daughter to be a supermodel.”

Waxing body hair — from the simple shaping of an eyebrow arch to the painful transformation of the bikini line — has long been a rite of passage for adult women. But now, more mothers around the U.S. are taking their tweens — kids 10 to 12 years old and some even younger — to salons to get body hair removed.

Some women are like that. I can think of one that would take her six year old to get highlights.

I am almost 26 and have never waxed anything in my life. I started shaving my legs when I was 9. By the time I was 10, I hated it.

I don't necessarily agree with it, but unless there are salon regulations on it, I don't see anyone stopping it.

Hmmm...My 12 year old daughter has been shaving since she was 11.  I allowed her to shave her legs when she started her period.  I figure if she had to deal with that part of being a girl, she should be allowed to shave.  Their dad is italian so needless to say, they are very hairy!  Now she shaves her entire leg, and grooms her bikini area as well.  I am impressed that she takes such good care of herself.  If she were to want to get waxed, and would pay for it herself (I don't get waxed because I can't afford it) I don't think I would object.   But, I look at that as being part of her hygiene.  She is not allowed to get her nails done, or get her hair dyed...because I feel she is too young.

I have to laugh, my parents were similar. I could pretty much do whatever except dye my hair or paint my nails red :)

LOL @ at the painting nails red...I couldn't do that either.

I couldn't wear lipstick until I was 16 yo.  It was lip gloss before then and it had to be clear.  ehehehehehe.

I didn't shave my legs though.  It just never came up.  I'm black so I guess it was harder to see the hair on my legs.  It was never a topic of conversations with my friends.  In fact, I was pretty shocked when I found out in the 8th grade that many of my non-black friends shaved their legs.  So I went around asking others if they shaved their legs.

I think in all of my life, (Im 34 now), I've only shaved my legs 3 times.  I've naired quite a few times when I was modeling (back when I was 18-22 years of age).  But for the most part shaving legs wasn't even an issue.  and still really isn't.

I don't do anything to them now (since I was 22).  In fact when I met my H, he would rub my legs and ask in I shaved them because they were so smooth and I said "no". He asked if I naired them and I told him "not anymore and when I did it was only for a modeling job".

Now if you look at my legs, hair is there but my friends say they can't see it at all...even if they look closely.  My sisters are pretty surprised because they did shave (now they regret it because they can't "stop")...LOL.

Of course shaving bikini area and armpits were the norm.

I think the older I get the less hair I am getting under my arms, on my legs and bikini area...yet my hair on my head is just fine.

Odd huh?
