I was just reading this horrid story of a gang rape of a 15 year old girl where 10-20 people participated or watched. It happened on her high school grounds just after her homecoming dance. Just a few weeks ago a teen was beaten to death in Chicago by other teens and the stories just keep coming and imo, seem worse and worse. Are teens becoming more violent or is are these horrific stories just getting reported more? What do you think is the cause of all this?

I just saw this on tv last night. I was horrified. Especially after hearing that CA has a law that anyone that witnesses something like this happening to a 14 year old or younger can be charged, but not in this case because she was 15.... What does the age of the victim have to really do with it! Anyone, regardless of how old the victim is, that stands by and does nothing, in my opinion, is just as bad.

I think there is a huge breakdown in society that is making this more prevalant.   Parents are not teaching their kids right from wrong.  Communities are being taken over by gangs and teaching the kids how to behave.  There is less sense of right and wrong and law and order.  Where I live, its not so much a problem here with just the cornfields!   But where I grew up, 30 miles from here is an urban jungle now .  we get all the detroit news and it scares me.  I cannot fathom sending my kids to schools with metal detectors and where they cant wear certain colors to avoid offending some gang.   I question why the parents arent up there at those schools, and why the officials arent expelling the gang members and why the police arent arresting them and charging them with serious crimes.  It feels like society has just given up sometimes.

I'm not sure which was more shocking-her attack or the fact so many people stood by, watched and did nothing! It seems like more and more you hear that people are standing around watching and do nothing. I can't even begin to imagine how someone could justify doing nothing.

As the mother of teens, I can't begin to fathom my children standing around watching something like this and doing nothing-much less actually doing something like this. Just a few weeks ago a group of teens in Fl. set another boy on fire and left him to die (he lived but will spend the rest of his life enduring agony) and it's just unimaginable to me that so many youngsters can be so heartless and cruel. How do they get to the point that they can do something so cruel??
