It seems like every day now there's another food being recalled... ground beef, peanut butter, vegetables, the list goes on & on.  Most recently, a New York firm has recalled approximately 545,699 lbs of fresh ground beef due to a possible E.coli contamination.

Do all the recalls make you wary about what you buy?  Have you ever bought anything on a recall list?  Has any food on a recall list made you sick?  Are you concerned about food safety?

Here is some general information about E.coli (including symptoms that you've contracted an E.coli infection).  Also, tips for food safety which include the safe handling and cooking of beef and other foods.

I am very concerned about food safety. My husband recently enlisted in the Army so everything that I have known for 29 years has to change. I have always bought meat from the same meat market. Now I am 4500 miles away and I can't buy from there. I worry about the meat that I buy from the grocery stores here.

No, I'm not really worried about it.   I suppose it could happen, but I am as careful as I can be without driving myself crazy.   I buy meat that is cut in the store butcher shop rather than the stuff that is prepackaged when it arrives.  I make sure to clean the counter surfaces and not to cross contaminate.  I buy local produce when possible, and wash everything really good.   I suppose the peanut butter thing could always get us, but the alternative is to give it all up, because you just cant protect yourself from every food recall.     I buy a lot of groceries, I have never bought any recall items, and our area seems to be pretty safe in that over the years I only remember a few times that it pertained to our area.  I think that was just the peanut butter and the dog food, but I dont buy those brands.
