I saw an article on my local news website this morning about how jail inmates are getting vaccinated against H1N1 while some high risk members of the public are having to go without.  That doesn't seem right to me.  Then I saw the following Dr. Nancy exerpts about the vaccine and delays.  Something doesn't seem right to me, what do you think?

The government promised about 40 million doses of swine flu vaccine would be available by now, but the actual number of shots is much lower. Has the White House mismanaged the vaccine distribution?  Dr. Nancy Snyderman talks to infectious diseases expert Michael Osterholm.

Dr. Nancy Snyderman talks with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius about delays in delivery of the swine flu vaccine

yeah, unfortunately there is just not enough of the vaccine to go around. I'm not worried about trying to get it -- if there is only a limited supply it should go to people who really absolutely need it. I'm just going to make sure to take every precaution I can to make sure I don't get any kind of flu, H1N1 or regular! I've been using hand sanitizer all the time and I'm thinking about keeping some Kleenex Anti-Viral with me as well.

I do think something is wrong with how its being distributed.  we live in a smallish county, squished between two larger metro areas.  There are some clinics in the metro areas, but so far nothing for our county and you have to be a resident to qualify for the other counties.   Our health dept is expecting 4000 doses and the waiting list has 15,000 people on it. Then we read about the politicians getting theirs and jail inmates ahead of regular taxpaying citizens, its crazy.   My dad is a stroke patient and he hasnt had his yet because there isnt any, but the guy who robs or kills someone gets it?

See, I just don't see how that can possibly be *right*.  Your dad definitely should have gotten one of the first doses and yet it's that other guy, the one who may have killed someone, stolen cars, raped someone, molested a child, or robbed a home (or a myriad of other crimes) is the one who got it instead. :(

Yeah, I understand the thinking about giving them to prisoners because its a contained environment and if it breaks out there, it could be deadly.  if there were plenty to go around its a great idea, but I would think school teachers would be on the list ahead of prisoners since they are contained in a classroom with our kids all year!  (If they were trying to make a list of priority situations, I mean)

Its just ridiculous.  My dad doesnt worry about it, he hesitated about even getting one so he isnt out there hollering for it, but I know a lot people who are are.  My husband should get one, my kids havent gotten one yet either, their doctor hasnt gotten in a single dose yet. but the prisoners have gotten theirs.
