Are you a working mother or do you stay home raising the kids? Was the decision to work or stay at home a difficult one for you? As a mother, has having children/a family affected your career in any way?

According to a report out this week, 39 percent of household breadwinners are women and women now make up half the American work force. Read more about this interesting report on working women in The Opt Out Myth and please feel free to share your thoughts.

I have done both. I have been a stay at home for 15 years. I now am re-entering the work force full time.

My honest opinion is this: I urge all women to keep their foot in the door of some type of work, whether it is a few hour a week or more.

I am thankful and grateful that I could stay home with my kids, but I am so glad I kept working in my field here and there throughout the duration of my staying at home.

I loved being with my kids, and I will miss being home more than anything in the world, but economic and other factors place huge burdens and extra stress on stay-at-home mothers. Most are completely under-appreciated by everyone, including other women.

So frankly I hate the discussions about SAHM vs Working since I dont fit in either catergory. YEs, I am home 75% of the time, but I also work 8+ hours a week. Not to mention none of the questions really pertain to us. Plus, this discussion very quickly can get heated.

Personally, Do what works for you/whats best for your family, and call it a day. We all are trying to do the best we can with what life has handed us.

I couldn't agree more with your post - I too hate the whole discussion.

Like you said <<<Personally, Do what works for you/whats best for your family, and call it a day. We all are trying to do the best we can with what life has handed us.>>>

Absolutely!

Most women simply don't have a choice these days. The whole argument is silly. You do what ya gotta do and get it done.
