Hello all, I'm so glad I found this board. I have an almost 7 wk old (wow, time flies), and was lucky to have lost all but 3 lbs of my baby weight by our 2 wk check up. I know my long-term goals, but I think it would help me if I set some short term ones as well. My long term ones are life long fitness, so I can avoid the later in life health problems that plague my medical history, toning everywhere, and losing inches from the classic lady problem areas; waist, hips, buns and thighs. I was walking 30 min a day while I was pregnant, and I soooo need to start that again (for my dog's sanity if nothing else, lol).

Any ideas on what kinds of short term goals I could set for myself and exercises or DVD's to get me started would be GREATLY appreciated. Oh, and just so you know, I have some small (3 and 5 lbs, I think) weights and an exercise ball already. (I've tried to start workout routines before, :) )

Hi and welcome to the board. My name is Kerry and I am mom to a 6.5 yo ball of male energy and a 22 mo female babyzilla. Sorry I didnt see this yesterday, time flies even daily it seems.

Congrats on your new bundle of joy and is he a cutie. I would recommend not trying to do too much until your Dr Clears you for exercise. But the walking is a great place to start, and you can even do things like mall walking now that its colder. However, that may not help the dogs sanity that much but it will be better than taking baby out in the cold. LOL

As far as goal for walking, I would even say just working up to the 30 min walks or longer would be a great goal. I usually (not at present, I lost it) wear a pedometer to count my steps and just try to add more steps per month than last month. it works well when you dont lose the silly thing. *Blush*

For videos, some of us had/are doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred. Its only 20 minutes, but you will seriously work all of that time. Its great for working all the muscle groups and if you already have weights, thats really all you need.

Also, make sure you are drinking that water. You will need it between the baby and yourself.

I am glad you found us, Feel free to make yourself at home. Share some tips of your own or go looking for some in out tip area, or start yourself a journal to track your progress in our Mommy fitness diaries, or just chat with other moms in our Active moms area.

I cant wait to get to know you better.

Thanks for the welcome and the congrats. I think he's a cutie too, but I'm admittedly biased.

I'll be cleared this Friday, as thats our "6 wk check up" (at almost 8 weeks, pfffft, oh well). I think I'll ask my dad if he's feeling up to walking the mall (or somewhere else indoors) on Sunday to get our walking started again. He has chemo this Fri, so there's no telling how he'll feel Sun. If he's not up to it, I may just have to go alone.

I'll look at Jillian's 30 day shred, 20 min sounds more than doable (and if its not, I'll find a way to make it doable, lol). I also thought about it for a while, and realized I could just do my housework while I'm wearing him in my wrap, carrying around an extra 9lbs or so (I don't know for sure, find out Fri) while I'm vacuuming and dusting should help :).

Hi and welcome!

Sorry I'm chiming in late.

There are tons of ways to get started. Walking is the best way to get into shape and stay in shape. There are numerous 'walking in place in your home" DVDs that are incredible. Any of the Leslie Sansone "Walk Slim" or "Walk Away the Pounds," are fun and really work you. They aren't long and they are easy to do, especially with a new baby. You can get them at Walmart.

Also, continue doing those Kegel exercises you were told to do while pregnant. They strengthen your inner muscles and help tighten back up what was loosened during pregnancy. You can do those while you are sitting and feeding or rocking the baby or just relaxing.

There are tons of way to sneak in exercise to help tone yourself back up.

When you are bored and going crazy from the baby crying--Turn on some music, and dance around the house holding your bundle of joy. That will burn TONS of calories.

Get a few light weights to do some arm toning also. Jillian and Leslie have excellent programs that use light weights.

Visit www.NeverSayDiet.com and check out their workout videos for quick, easy solutions and how-to's on workouts.

Great to have you here!

So how did the Dr. appt go?

And I think asking your dad to walk with you is a great idea, but remember, he may not be up to it. Plus walking alone is never a bad idea. I use to do it all the time when my son was in Pre-school since the mall was right next to the school and we lived (with traffic) abotu an hour away. So I would go walk that while he was at school. Maybe even ask for a way to take tunes with you for Christmas for your walks (Since some mall music can get a tad annoying).

And yeah, just staying moving in general can help. You would be amazed how many calories you can burn just staying up and going. And adding a bit of extra weight to walk around with wont hurt it either.

It sounds like you have gotten some great ideas. So now its just time to implement them.
