I work out 5x wkly. I do 1 hr Body Pump classes (free weights) on M,W,F & 1/2-1 hr aerobic workouts on T,TH. I have been doing the aerobics for several years and have been doing the Body Pump for about 7 months. People tell me I look toner but I have not lost any weight so I am thinking about adding an aerobic workout on Saturdays. I have a membership to Curves but I haven't been since I started the Body Pump classes as they recommend taking a day off between weight lifting. I actually went back to Curves this past Tuesday afternoon and I couldn't believe I felt a bit of soreness in my muscles the next day. I was talking to one of the instructors for the Body Pump class and she said I might need to do the weights 3x and the aerobics 3x wk. I am at the age where my metabolism has slowed down so I need to try something different to loose weight. It is depressing to not see some progress. I am also playing around trying to find the correct number of calories I need each day to loose weight. I know you need to burn about 3,500 calories to loose a pound but I am not sure on the max number of calories per day. It is easy to workout on a machine and have it tell you that you have burned 500 calories but that doesn't do any good if you don't have the other information. For about 2 months I have been trying to stay right around 1,300 calories a day and this is the point where I am seeing weight loss/weight gain so I don't know if I need to go lower or higher. I might be struggling because I am not eating enough calories - then again it might be because I am eating too many. It seems no matter which website you go to you will get a different number every time! I am excited though - today I am having a Polar Body age test at my gym to see how my body age related to my real age. Hopefully I will get some useful information and can finally move forward.

Hi Queenbea59 and welcome to the board. Boy, sounds like a great exercise plan you have and follow, but I agree on maybe adding another cardio day, and even dropping the 3rd strength day if 5 days if you maximum. Maybe that could bust you through a plateau and get your weight dropping again? On your calories, well according to everything I read if you eat over 1200 a day your body stays out of starvation mode, so at 1300 you've covered that. I found the most information using a website called www.sparkpeople.com. They have an online food journal, exercise tracker, calories and nutrition tracker and when you sign up (it's free)they ask questions and devise a plan for you. You can even have them premake menu's and workout schedule's as well. But it'll give you an idea for your height and weight how much you should eat a day of what. Check it out and tell me what you think. Also, please follow up with us on your polar body age results test! Sounds cool!

Hi chocOlate,

Well I went to do the PolarBody Age test and evidently the instructor was not informed she had appointments today so I will have to reschedule it for next week. I'll let you know how it goes. I am afraid it will say my body age is older than I am! And some days I really feel it. LOL At least I have been doing the weight training and cardio on a regular basis otherwise it could be worse. I just wish I had the test done before I started Boby Pump - it would have been interesting to see the difference between then and now. How about you - what is your workout schedule like? I find if I don't work out in the morning then I usually don't work out at all. The gym is crowded after work and I hate waiting for a machine. Even today when I went to the gym at 11am it was crowded and I had a hard time finding a parking spot. Once you don't go for a while it is hard to get back into the swing of things.
