Hi Ali,

I'm a longtime iVillager but new to this board.

Since June, I've been utilizing MediFast products (shakes, soups, puddings, hot & cold drinks), and have lost about 23 pounds in this time.  Previously, I had gained some weight since last year due to surgically-induced menopause that my longtime healthy whole foods/exercise routine couldn't seem to kick.

I want to continue on with a similiar plan to get through the holidays, while continuing to take off those last few pounds, too.  However, the MediFast products are VERY expensive, not to mention the shipping charges, etc.  Can you tell me how Slim-Fast products compare to MediFast, both nutritionally and cost-wise?  I remember Slim-Fast as just being a few flavors of shakes.

For fall/winter, I really enjoy the hot beverage and soup meal replacements.  Does Slim-Fast have these types of products?

I like the following in meal replacements:  low-glycemic (low sugar), high protien, high fiber, nutritionally balanced, low-calorie, and as little sugar alcohols as possible.  Does Slim-Fast fit this description, or a certain "line" of Slim-Fast products?  If it's a certain line, please tell me which I should look for.

Is the program just 2 SlimFast a day + 1 meal, or is it more frequent SlimFast meals through the day?  Thanks for anything you can tell me about the current Slim-Fast plan.   :)

Maggie,

Thank you for your questions.

The Slim-Fast Plan incorporates lots of fruits, vegetables, and other non-Slim-Fast products, as well as Slim-Fast Shakes, Meal Bars, and Snack Bars.  A typical day would be as follows: Replace breakfast with a Slim-Fast Shake or Meal Bar, combine a Slim-Fast Shake or Meal Bar with 200 calories (i.e. half a turkey sandwich) at lunch, and dine on a Sensible Meal (approximately 500 calories) for dinner.  In addition, you are allotted fruits, vegetables, and/or 120-calorie Snacks, depending on your personalized plan.

The Slim-Fast Plan is meant to be a balanced meal plan that is lower in calories, to help you lose weight.  We have a range of product lines to also fit your needs.  Our Optima line is our basic line that is overall balanced for protein, carbs, and fat, and is 50% lower in sugar than our Classic Line.  Our High Protein Line is slightly lower in sugar and carbohydrates than our Optima line, and contains 50% more protein than our Optima line.  Our lower carb line, which consists of Shakes, contains only 1 gram of sugar, and double the protein of our Optima Shakes.

The price of our products varies from store to store, as Slim-Fast does not set the prices for each store.  You may want to check out your local pharmacy or supermarket to see what they are selling for.  Wal-mart, K-Mart, Target also carry our products, and may have them at a more discounted price.  You can also try online retailers such as amazon.com, enutritionshop.com, and drugstore.com.

To view more information about the plan, check out our website: www.slim-fast.com.  For more specifics on our products, you can go to: http://www.slim-fast.com/products/products.aspx.

Also, please feel free to call me if you have further questions.  You can reach me at 1-800-SLIMFAST (754-6327).
