I haven't had any problems with it but everyone's body is different. Ali our dietician should stop by and give you some insight on why it could be happening.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing stomach discomfort!

Stomach upset/bloating can be a side effect to a major change in your diet. Food-related issues that may cause gas and bloating while following the Slim-Fast plan could include food intolerances and allergies such lactose intolerance, gluten sensitivity or dairy allergies, the increased fiber content of your diet, or a sensitivity to sugar alcohols (a low-calorie sweetener contained in some of our Meal and Snack Bars).

To allow your system to gradually adjust to these changes, I suggest the following options:

Intolerance to Milk:
If you are lactose intolerant, try our Slim Fast Easy to Digest Shakes, which are lactose and gluten free. These shakes provide the same great taste, balanced nutrition, and essential vitamins and minerals as the Slim Fast Optima Shakes. You can also use our Slim Fast Optima Powder Shakes mixed with lactose-free milk or low-fat soy milk to make a 99% lactose-free shake. In addition, the Slim Fast Meal On-The-Go Bars are lower in lactose, with 2 grams of lactose or less per serving.

You can also check with your pharmacist, physician or dietitian about over-the-counter products such as LactaidŽ, which can help with the digestion of lactose if you wish to consume the Slim Fast Optima Shakes.

Adjusting to an Increased Fiber Intake:
Try using canned fruits and vegetables initially and gradually increase to fresh produce. Start with Slim Fast Meal Bars or Slim Fast Easy to Digest Shakes since these have less fiber than the Slim Fast Optima Shakes. Note: When increasing the fiber in your diet, make sure to drink more water to help prevent constipation.

Sensitivity to Sugar Alcohols:
Gas and bloating may also be the result of a sensitivity to sugar alcohols. Some varieties of Slim-Fast Meal and Snack Bars contain low-calorie sweeteners called sugar alcohols. For some people, an excessive consumption of sugar alcohols can result in gas and bloating, depending on the individual's sensitivity and other foods eaten at the same time. If you think your symptoms could be related to sugar alcohols, you may want to reduce your consumption of these products. Slim Fast Ready to Drink Shakes, Powder Shakes, Chewy Granola Meal Bars, and Optima Muffin Snack Bars contain few to no sugar alcohols.

You may want to check with your physician for additional guidance in this area. He or she would be the best to advise you on a weight loss program, since they have full knowledge of your past medical history.

If you have additional questions, please feel free to call me at 1-800-SLIMFAST (754-6327).
