Women of the Future.  Is shorter & fatter really what the evolved woman will become?

How interesting. Wonder where their research came from and why they think women are getting shorter. My daughters' Pediatrician told me that the average height for women in this country is 5'4" which is taller than it was a century ago. She attributed this to better nutrition.

Just personal observation, I come from a family of very tall women (I'm 5'10 myself) and at a recent family gather we were all remarking how women seemed to be getting taller because we don't stick out like sore thumbs as much as we used to. My teen daughter has two friends that are actually taller than I am even. ;)

I did a little research to see if I could dig up some statistics.  Here's what I found:

NY Times - May 5, 2009, 9:04 am
Stunted Growth: Americans Stop Getting Taller

I know people are getting fatter but shorter?????????? doubt it. Unless the fat people are lacking in nutrition which in turn affects their height??????????????? Leila

That's what I'm wondering too, could this be a result of poor nutrition? Sounds just amazing that people in this country could be suffering from poor nutrition in this day and age. It's probably more a matter of poor food choices.
