Well, we all HAVE to eat, to survive, so why not work on making friends with food? So many of us look at food as the enemy, to be constantly battled. It's time to change your mindset about food. Think of food as a tool to help fuel yourself, but also to enjoy without guilt. That comes down to personal selections - and portions (that's a really tough one!).

When the pressure is off, and the battle of "good" and "bad" foods is over, we can manage our weight management plan a lot better.

Do you agree?

i agree!  we have to eat, so why not make food our friend?  i think of it not just as fuel, but as a source of nutrition--vitamins, minerals, protein--things we all need.  i think about how many servings i need rather than how few i can get by on.  and when i cheat by eating something non-nutrious, i still feel like i need to eat what i know i need, so my cheat is truly extra food and extra calories.

I totally agree.  I've also found that since I got out of the "off limits," "bad food" or "cheating" mindset I make better choices.  If I'm reaching for the cookie or looking for something sweet after dinner, I just ask myself "Is there a better choice?"  For instance, last night I had a strawberry yogurt with some grape nuts mixed into it when I was looking for "dessert."  It filled me up more than a couple of cookies and probably had about the same amount of calories.  I felt satisfied, not deprived, because I made it my choice.

you made a wonderful observation.

choice

I choose to eat healthy now.  If I accept that in my mind, make it my choice to do so, then I don't have that "diet deprevation" feeling so many people feel.

I pick the best choice also and feel I am doing it voluntarily now.

So many "diet" and then fall off the wagon because they are deprived.  They want the "forbidden foods" so badly.  I just decided those "worse" foods are not what I choose to eat and somehow it makes it all so much easier for me...LOL

I've also found the more often I eat something the more I want it.  So the more often I eat cookies, the more I want them.  The more often I eat fresh fruit, the more I want it.  I keep that in mind when I'm making my choices too.  It's just as easy to grab a banana or an apple for a snack when you're running out the door as it is to grab a protein bar or a granola bar.  I'm trying to go for the less processed option more often than not.
