I'm new here and have my 1st apt with a bariatric surgeon on 11/24, so I am trying to research the options, I have a couple of basic questions.

What type of surgery did you have?

Why did you pick that type of surgery?

What do you now eat in a typical day?

I picked the RNY and for me it has been a great experience.

My typical day is

Breakfast: Banana Bread Oatmeal (Quaker Weight Control) w/ 1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Morning Snack: Luna or Balance protein bar

Lunch: Boca burger with a stick of light cheese and a s/f pudding  OR
Grilled Chicken Breast (4 ounces) with apples slices
OR
Ground turkey w/ taco seasoning w/ shredded cheddar cheese

Afternoon Snack: Greek Yogurt w/ splenda packet and sometimes 1/8 cup granola

Dinner: My favorite dinner is my Taco Pizza (one wheat pita with 1 tbsp. sauce, shredded mexican cheese     and then 2 ounces of crumbled turkey taco meat- baked for 6 minutes in the oven). YUMMO!!

                                                       OR

Crab cake (homemade or store bought), Ground lamb pita pockets with cucumber sauce, chicken or eggplant parmigiana, or many other meals. These are among my favorites though.

Dessert: Sugar Free Jello pudding cup

What type of surgery did you have?

I had the RnY gastric bypass.

Why did you pick that type of surgery?

I was going to do the lapband, but after talking to my surgeon, I chose the RnY instead.  He explained the weight loss w/ RnY is faster and tends to be more successful and easier to keep off.  But those are the only 2 types of surgery I knew about at the time.  I would make sure to ask about all of them when you have your consultation (if your insurance covers any other type, some don't).

What do you now eat in a typical day?

I'm not going to name specifics (too much work, LOL), but I typically stick to low fat, low calorie, low sugar, low carb, high protein items w/ an occasional supplement of fiber (I have the powder, but I'll eat a Fiber One bar or something in addition).  So far, w/ the exception of a stomach ache now and then (probably because I've pushed myself past my limit--it doesn't take much), I haven't had any adversion to any foods that you typically hear about w/ this surgery.  But I try to keep my self control and stay away from foods I know I should not eat.  I am not as good about eating veggies or fruits as I should be, but I'm trying.  This weekend I also cheated a little bit and had a few small pieces of Halloween candy, but I figure that's ok as long as I don't make a regular habit of it. And I'm still 3 lbs lighter than I was last Thursday. :p

The practice I have an apt with does laproscopic gastric bypass, lapbands and realize bands.  I am thinking the gastric bypass is the only option for me since I am like sweets and don't think I would do well with the lapband for that reason.

How long ago did you have your surgery?
