3 months ago, I was in GREAT shape.  I was doing 2 hours of aerobics at a time and feeling a wonderful exercise-buzz afterwords.  I was tone and had high energy.

One day, after doing a spin and hip-hop class, I got a virus, then pneumonia.  I was bedridden for 6 weeks, lost 8 lb.s, and, now, I am exhausted after working out.  I am under a doctor's care, who recommended that I start doing light aerobics.  Day 1, I did a weight class (the aerobics instructor didn't show up so I opted for the weight class) with light weights (half the weight and half the reps that I am accustomed to) that left me with burning muscles for 5 days, Day 5, I did a spin class on low resistance and low speed.  Now I have been at home for 5 days with another virus because my immune system is down.

Help?!  I am an exercise junky, but my body won't let me workout hard.  I would love to have that high-energy, workout as hard as you can class that leaves you feeling great.  But I am realizing that my body is not physically ready for that.  What kind of training do you recommend, and how long does it generally take to get your workout level back on high-speed?

I don't know how long it might take to get back to where you were.  I think the workout videos that I use - Walk Away the Pounds - might fit the bill for where you're at right now.  They're low impact aerobics - walking in place, side steps, kicks, and knee lifts - combined with light strength training, sometimes using light weights, resistance bands, or an ab belt.  You could probably pick up a couple at the library, or I've heard through Netflix (not sure if I spelled that right - I'm not really familiar with it).  That way you could do your workouts at home, and do as much or as little as you feel up to that day - or break your workout up into segments throughout the day rather than all at once.  Then once you get feeling 100% again, you can head back to the gym.

I would suggest firstly, getting your immune system back up. Im gonna suggest you book an appointment with a naturopathic doctor. Then when you've gotten yourself back up to snuff, I would start exercising.
