A friend of mine is trying to get me to join weight watchers, but from what I understand the diet has changed. I asked him to show me his books and the measurements of each food group, but to my surprise there were no measurements. Its some kind of point system, but he couldn't tell me what the measurement of each food was. In the past, you were given a book that listed all the measurements of food and how many points each thing was. For example:

1 egg = 2 points
1 cup of cereal = 2 points
1 slice of bread = 1 point
6 ounces of chicken = 3 points
1 orange = 1 point

From what he described to me, you are no longer given that information, you just more or less guess at how much you are eating. If that be the case, then I'm not joining because what I really need are some guidelines so that I can gauge whether or not I'm eating too much or too little. Anybody know if my friend is giving me the wrong information?

I haven't been to a meeting for a while now. I still use the weight watchers site for recipe and the point values are there. There's no guess work. http://www.weightwatchers.com/food/rcp/index.aspx?recipeId=108241 It's clear, this makes 6 servings and each serving is 3 points.

I don't want to know how many points a "recipe" is. I may not want to make those recipes. I want a book which lists how many points each food is. Does anyone know if weight watchers gives you a book that lists all the foods and measurements, and how many points each food is?

when I joined WW in 2006, I bought the starter kit which had a book showing how many points for each food.....I'm sure that is what you are talking about.....very rarely do I consult the book anymore b/c I have most foods that I eat memorized.....plus there is a slider I have that you can put in the calories/fat grams/fiber grams, and it'll show you how many points....

I got my books on ebay and they show points values for specific amounts. And as Shannon described I have a slider as well that I can use to help calculate certain foods if they aren't in my book. I'm not sure how the new program works but I know the older programs still use specific amounts and points. I would say look on ebay for the older books. My books are from 2008. Just a thought!
