Hi everyone,

What a great group you have here!  I read some of your posts and it's so nice to see all the support and encouragement out there!

Well, I'm brand new here and  I just started following WW a week ago.  My Mum joined a local group and she has been helping me as I can't afford to join myself.  She loaned me an old points calculator and bought me a points book from a meeting.

I'm feeling really discouraged as I've been on the plan for one week and I haven't lost anything.  I've been following it very closely and feel sooo hungry!  I'm just surprised that I didn't lose any weight at all, despite cutting back so much on what I'm eating and I've been exercising nearly every day!

I'm wondering if this may not be the right program for me.  I'm only 5lbs away from my goal weight and I only get 19 points a day.  I'm worried that this program might cause my metabolism to slow down too much and confuse my system into thinking I'm starving.  I find that 19 points is really very little.  I used up all my points every day and every last one of my extra flex points for the week.  I mostly spread the flex points out daily, but on Friday we had a food day at work so I used 16 on that day alone.  I'm hoping that this coming week will be better as I don't have any special events happening so maybe I won't use up all the points, but then on the other hand I'm afraid to eat too little and trigger a metabolism shift in the wrong direction.

I've always been careful about what I eat and try to be very active, mind you, the last couple of years not so much as I had my daughter 28 months ago.  I've managed to get 5 lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight, which I guess is really good considering, but I really want to lose those last 5 lbs.

Does anyone out there have any advice or a similar experience?  What has helped you?  Do you think maybe I need to try something different?  I did try Body for Life, but I simply don't have the time anymore to commit to all the exercise that plan requires.  I believe that WW is a tried and true, healthy way to lose weight, but maybe I don't have enough weight to lose.

Thanks so much for any advice, comments, tips etc.

:o)

Are you drinking all your water?

Are you eating a breakfast?

When do you feel hungry?

How is your liquid calorie intake?

"I'm just surprised that I didn't lose any weight at all, despite cutting back so much on what I'm eating and I've been exercising nearly every day!"

I have heard mentioned many times that exercise can be one of those things where your body really needs a lot of extra water to show weight loss, plus if you're doing weight training you will also be building muscle which weighs more than fat.

Welcome Sarah!  It's great to meet you.

Give the program another week doing what you're doing.  If you don't lose anything and/or continue to feel so hungry, then you might need to add a couple of points.  If you're exercising so much, you really should consider eating your activity points.  If your mum has the reading materials describing how to calculate those ask her for them so that you can make sure you're eating enough.  :)  Also, make sure you're getting in your requirements of fruits & veggies, dairy & water and that will help with the hunger as well.  Really though, the first couple of weeks are going to be the hardest as far as the hungry level.

Funny. I'm on week 4 and I've just been thinking the last 3 or 4 days about how much my hunger has gone down. I've cut out points during the day because I just don't need to eat as much as I used to. Part is because I've introduced 0 point snacks and eat better food choices so I stay full longer, but it's interesting how quickly you adapt.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you so much for your replies!  I do add activity points for exercise (my Mum gave me one of those points sliders for activity as well).  I admit, I'm not getting enough dairy though.  I've never been much of a dairy person.  Never liked to drink milk, so I only have it in my cereal in the morning.  I try to drink lots of liquids through the day as well.

Good news though - I weighed myself again this morning and suddenly I'm down 1/2 a pound from yesterday!  That was encouraging!  I'm definitely going to give it at least another week.  I don't want to bail on my Mum either as she finds it motivating that I'm doing the plan along side her and I want to support her in any way I can.  :o)
