I am 26 weeks pregnant and have been having reoccuring diarrhea. It started in my first trimester and seems to be getting worse as my pregnancy continues. It usually lasts a day or two and then goes away for a few days. My doctor says it is nothing to worry about because it doesn't last long and I am hydrated and gaining weight just fine. I am wondering if it has anything to do with my diet. I am taking prenatals and trying to eat a healthy diet. This did not happen with my last pregnancy and I have always had a really strong stomach. Is there anything else I should know that might help?

It is not uncommon for some women to suffer from diarrhea during pregnancy.  That's becuase the placenta secrets a hormone called relaxin which quiets smooth muscle contractions, which can relax the digestive tract and allow food to pass through too quickly.   You may want to drink some Gatorade every day to help and replenish some electrolytes that you may be losing. Otherwise, if you doctor has checked it out to make sure it's not caused by an infection or food posioning then, most likely it's due to the reason above and you'll just have to do your best to keep up with fluids.  On the days you have the diarrhea,  you may want to cut back on the high fiber foods.
