Dear Sue,

I've been reading articles about cholesterol on iVillage...but I couldn't find more info related to my situation. I'm 25 years old, 5'5 and 112 lb. I eat healthy (1300 calories a day), workout 3 times a week, drink 8 glasses of water everyday. I'm actually a borderline health freak, I always read about (magazines and websites) on diet, fitness, power food...etc. I cook most of my meals since I can't find nutrition facts from most restaurants, and fast food is just too gross with all the fat and hydronated oil... Anyways, why I panicked because I recently got my cholesterol tested, and surprisingly the number was 270, which the nurse told me that he double checked, and it wasn't a mistake. I'm considered "high risk" on the chelesterol level!! OH MY GOD! What am I going to do? After reading the articles about "How to lower your cholesterol...", I found that I'm already doing most of it, eating fish, whole grain bagels, avocado..., please shed some light to how can I help with my cholesterol level. Thank you!

Angie

You should make an appointment with your doctor to discuss getting some cholesterol lowering medication.  There is such a thing as genetic hypercholesterolemia and it is almost never treatable with diet alone. So...keep up the good health habits and speak with a medical professional ASAP.
