I've noticed that in boot camp we are not getting the recommended 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day. What's the reasoning behind this? Is this correct or am I missing something?

Also, is it ok to use sweeteners such as Splenda? I am really missing my morning coffee, but I cannot drink it with only 1 tsp sugar, as the book says. I always drink decaf so it's not the caffine. I just like my cup of joe in the morning when I wake up :o)

Hi,

You're right, not every day of Boot Camp gets in 5-a-day.  That's because, on just 1200 calories, something's got to give!  And that's the reason Boot Camp is just two weeks, and not longer.  You simply cannot get enough nutrition on 1200 calories.  Believe me, I squeezed in as many nutrients as I could (including close to 1,000 mg calcium daily!).  And the diet is definitely healthy enough for two weeks, especially if you're taking the recommended multi vitamin/minearal daily.  But you must switch to the 1500 calorie Keep On Losin' plan after two weeks.  You'll find that you'll lose weight on 1500 calories, especially if you're exercising.

Thanks for your observant question!

Janis
