Hi,
Thanks for writing. There is an excellent book, The College Student's Guide to Eating Well on Campus, by Ann Litt, MS, RD, that will give you many options in the dining hall, foods you can keep in your dorm room and ideas for exercise.
Some tips:
Divide your plate into a peace sign, fill the largest segment with fruits and vegetables and the other two segments each with whole grains and lean protein when you eat a meal.
Allow yourself a treat every day, try to keep it at 150 calories or less, pick a pre-packaged treat to keep in your dorm room if necessary.
Nuts, dried fruit and high fiber whole grain cereal such as Kashi or Barbara's Bakeshop Cereal are great options to keep in your room.
If you have a refrigerator, some other great options to keep in your room include mozzarella string cheese, "veggie slices" soy cheese and low fat yogurt (if you choose plain you can sweeten it with dried fruit or fresh fruit)
Don't skip meals, try to take along food when you have a class schedule that keeps you from eating in the dining hall.
Good luck!
Tracy
