Smell out of clothes

I have been fortunate to inherit maternity and baby clothes from a friend. However, I can not seem to get a telltale scent out of the clothes. I have tried washing 3X with laundry soap, dishwashing liquid, baking soda along with double rinses. I can still smell what I believe to be perfume or detergent. She said that she uses unscented detergent, so I conclude it must be perfume, but it one the baby clothes as well.

Please help because I really need and want to wear these clothes, but I don't want to think of her all day long.

You might try hanging them outside in the fresh air and sun, leave over night if possible.  Try some of the new fabric fresheners such as Fabreeze.  Could be the fabric has absorbed the odor and it may never leave completely.

Have you tried to wash in a 1/2 cup of vinegar in the place of laundry soap?
The vinegar may nuetralize the perfume. I have used vinegar when laundry has a musty smell from being in a damp place. Try it. What have you got to loose? C377
