I noticed when I took my batch of whites from the washer that they looked dingy. Upon closer inspection, they have large brownish stains all over. My water is still brown, so I cannot rewash them right away. What should I do to get the brown/dinginess out? I cannot use bleach, as the clothes are not just whites, they are lights too.

Thanks!
Tracy

Hi try a rust remover product like Rust Out or Rit Dye has one that is washer load size packettes.  But do not use it on anything with red in it, it will fade the red.  Follow the directions for colored clothes.

DO NOT dry your clothes in the dryer, it will help set the stain.

What happens if they air dry before I can wash them again? My water is still brown. It could be tonight before I can wash them.

Thanks!

Air drying will be ok, it is the heat from the dryer that sets stains.

Good Luck

***HELOISE HERE***

Stop, don't panic! You can put the clothes in a plastic bag

that you can seal and into the freezer.

This works for wet clothes that have mildew on them too.

It will freeze them, then you can wash later. Or, if you have

a gallon or so of VINEGAR handy, put the clothes in the sink,

or a large plastic bag and pour on the vinegar. If it's "RUST" then

it helps take care of that. If it's other ( minerals, iron etc. ) it won't

help, but wont hurt. I know what you mean, we have the same

problem at our coast house..every so often it's what I call

a BROWN WATER MONDAY! No warning, NADA.

Good Luck,

Heloise
