8 year old has been taking Tai Kwan Do for 3 years now and is begging us to re-decorate his room. I have done thousands of searches, for ideas, wallpaper, borders and find nothing. He started doing competitions a few months back and has won 1st and 2nd place trophys, so we would like to incorporate in the room. Any help/ideas out there? PLZZZ

Terry

Decorate with Asian influences, such as bamboo, Japanese symbols stenciled as a border. Hang a "belt" or tai kwan do outfit on the wall, either framed or not.

Have your son, in a favorite "stance", stand in front of a light and trace his outline on a large sheet of white paper. Take his outline and trace it onto a wall in black to create a "silhouette". I would make the "silhouette" as large as possible. What a great esteem builder to see his shape larger than life on the wall. Then take "floating" shelves in black and place them one the outline to put his trophy's on.

The more you use "him" as your model the better, it will make his space truly his.

My son is also a martial artist. What I did for him is find second hand belts of all ranks and wrap them around themselves (to form a circle), stick a pin in the loose end to secure it and place them in small, black shadow boxes. I then arranged them on the wall from white at the top left to black at the bottom right. Also, most martial arts supply websites offer decorating and gift items.
