Just a reminder that your cool season vegetables are not just for spring, many also do well in the fall. Now (August) is a good time to plant a fall crop of peas, lettuce, spinach and radishes. Fall is also the best time to plant garlic for next spring!

Thanks for the reminder. Hard to believe it's that time already.

Yay! Today I planted some lettuce and spinach seeds. This is the first year I've tried planting fall veggies(though it's only my second year trying to grow a vegetable garden). I didn't even think of peas!

How do you plant garlic? Can you just use a clove from the grocery store?

Pam - Absolutely you can plant garlic from the grocery store. We did that last year and our garlic was good. For this fall we bought some from a catalog (our local gardening centers all close in July) and will plant that when our garden is done. Then we cover with a layer of hay or straw.
