Been up at my granddaughters quite a bit recently, what with the new baby and them getting ready to move.

I notice a really cute "banner" that they have in their window and on the deck as well. It's not exactly a banner.....more like those strings of pennants you see now and then....only the pennants are squares.

The indoor one is large squares of exotic type materials over which Chinese symbols have been stamped in black. Then the square is sewn onto string (you could use ribbon, raffia or whatever) and the squares are spaced out about three-four inches apart.

The outdoor one is plain colored squares with Kanji symbols (Chinese writing) stamped on them....the squares are slightly larger and the bottoms have been fringed.

T'would be ever so simple to coordinate this with a room by using your accent colors, or use school colors for students' rooms, team colors for a guy in your life, and so on.

If you can, you could use permanent marker to add the symbols instead of stamping them. Or, you could write a child's name, a family's last name, do the whole alphabet for a small child's room.

For inside you could use felt, too...making the square cutting easy and cheap!

Buying quilting squares would make a colorful banner even if you don't stamp on it. OR, you could sew on faux gems, small mirrors, fringes, trims....

So many possibilities and it wouldn't take long to crank a bunch out, nor a lot of money either! (Note: potential Christmas presents!)

You could make sailing pennants for a sailor, use golf designs for a golfer, etc....appliqued or stamped or drawn.

I'm thinking that it would be fun to have all my kids sign a square and then have their kids sign a smaller one and THEIR kids fingerprint or foot print a smaller one yet. Then, I'd sew each of the squares down below the parents and have a "geneology" for my wall or window! (A BIG window!)

Please do add on other ideas....it seems to me that there are tons of possibilities in this!
