We lived in Scotland when I was a child and we always had crackers at Christmas.

This lady has a great tutorial for making them.

Love her pudding break!

I've seen them made for pets, too....with dog biscuits or cat toys inside. I've done them a couple times, including beaded bracelets, candy, little toys and etc....but I used wrapping paper instead and skipped the snap part.

I love her instructions....so complete and detailed!

Some items I have included: sample sized toothpaste and lotion, travel toothbrushes, doll clothes, toy cars, candy and gum, jewelry, pencils or markers, sewing supplies, tiny votive candles and more.

I would put them in two baskets....one with a blue ribbon on it and the other with a pink! (For the kids...) For adults I just made generic things and put them in a basket with a yellow ribbon.

Fast and easy to make for bazaars and Christmas sales, too.

thanks for this link!!!! It is such a blast from the past!  When I was a kid we had them for birthdays, they just popped and there was confetti inside, but no gifts.  A few years ago, I was so excited to find some in a store and bought them, I ended up disappointed, because they did absolutely nothing!    I will need to try to make some of these and fill them with goodies for the greats for Christmas.

How cool!

Terrific little extra gift to have on hand for unexpected visitors! Would be a neat thing for a classroom treat also!
