I have 2300 sq ft of tongue and groove pine. I have 3 built ins that are tongue and groove plus all the walls. It is a nice light color but I hate it my husband loves it. Ive talked him into letting me do the kit cabinets and baths which were all pine, walls ,cabinets etc. I want to paint it so bad but he says it will hurt the resale of the house etc etc etc... What do you girls think...  my colors are red, mustard, black. what color would you paint the rooms if i can talk him into it. Thanks

Welcome silverhair2009!

Is this a mountain cabin or lodge type home? I know we had a little cabin in the mountains and it was all knotty pine t&g with open beam ceilings and my Hubby also loved it, but after 15 years of looking at it, I did get that wood overload feeling, LOL.

I do think for resale value you would have to find a buyer that loves all that wood.

Well, painting over it will not be easy and you will have to sand and prime it good first. The colors would depend on what other colors you have in the rooms, like furniture, rugs, artwork. Which, I have no idea of what you have or want to use.

Maybe you could make a compromise with your Hubby and use some colorful large quilts, Indian type rug, scenic wallpaper mural or large artwork on some of the walls or just paint one wall as a accent focal wall, say behind your sofa?

Can you share some photos with us so we can get a better picture of the rooms to give you some suggestions?

I agree with Doris that all that wood is such a personal taste that it could limit your buyer pool. Pine panels are pretty dated (think 1970s-80s basements) unless you are going for a log cabin look.

On the other hand, in 2007, pine paneling was making a comeback and designers were recommending against painting:

Sort of a darned if you do and darned if you don't...

Here's a write up on painting paneling, where there was a similar difference of opinoin between husband and wive to your dilemma:

Thanks for the replys. No it isnt a cabin. Its 2400 sq feet home full of  light tongue and groove.  I have cottage decor and right now Im going to stick with that. there are 3 bedrooms and a  large iving room and then my dining area that has a built in china cabinet. The living room has a built in book case and a built in gun cabinet. The baths were all pine but I painted over them and they look much better.  The pine came right off the land where we live. My colors are red, gold and black.. Thanks again for the reply.

You're very welcome silverhair!

Sounds very interesting, using wood from your land.

Tell us a little more info on the interior and about what colors you have in your other rooms, then we may be able to make some suggestions for you. This is one reason it's good to post some photos. Are you saying your furniture is red, gold and black in your LR? Do you have hardwood floors or carpets? What colors?
