To start off with - I really really am not good at decorating.......

We moved three years ago into a home that was the exact opposite of the home we left.  It's more contemporary (not super contemporary).  So, on the main floor, we purchased all new furniture & accessories.

At the time, I couldn't part with all my more warm, homey, old world accessories.  It's three years later and I'm tired of looking at them and was going to give to charity.  BUT, our basement is a blank slate right now.  We have a tv, couch, pool table, the basic family room furniture.  My question is - is it ok to mix styles in different rooms?  I started thinking that maybe I could use all the accessories that I loved in my other house in the basement.  The basement is completely by itself, it can not be viewed at all by the main floor.  As I said, I'm not a good decorater and would like your opinions.  Thanks!

Welcome sandrak1965!

I don't see any reason you can't mix and match your furniture in your basement playroom. I would keep your very favorite comfy things and get rid of what you don't like. Try and get a nice area rug that has most of the colors in it that some of your furniture has, maybe some toss pillows on your sofa that are in one of your chair colors? Is the furniture a print or solid colors?

Don't forget, you can always have something recovered or use a slipcover over it if it's a off color you don't like.

I have a comfy old 70's chair with dark pine wooden arms and legs and a 1920's coffee table we love and refuse to get rid of them. Hubby loves the chair and I love the coffee table. They are all in earth tone colors, so they blend in the room well, since the room is all done in earth tones and they have become conversation pieces too.

Wish you could post some photos of the room so we can see what colors and furniture you have and what to keep.

Hi, I go by that old saying, "if you love them then they will go together".  I would not get rid of anything you truly like.  I'm betting most of your old accessories will work just fine.
