Reusing old tennis balls

Now, I realise this isn't in the top one thousand things to do to save the planet, but I ran across a small list and decided it might be fun to see what else we can come up with.

This list is from Womans Day June 2009...paraphrased.

1. Fluff laundry...add a clean tennis ball to the dryer full of clothes and it will fluff them up!

2. Cut a tennis ball in half and use it to cover sharp corners on furniture.

3. Cut in half and use under furniture legs to slide the piece without scratching the floor.

4. Hide things. Cut a slit in a tennis ball and insert money or rings or anything you need to temporarily hide. Just make sure no one tries to use that ball!

5. Place a tennis ball on the floor and rotate the sole of your foot on it for a self-foot massage...or put three in a sock, knot the end and use it to knead your muscles.

My additions:

Got a snorer? Make a pocket in the back of his/her pajama top and insert the ball so they don't sleep on their back!

Make old tennis balls into "poi balls" for exercising your arms and shoulders.

Cover the trailer hitch ball with one to prevent rusting.

On some cars, slit a hole in one and place it on the antenna of your car for a quicker find in a crowded parking lot. Doesn't work well on retractable antennas!

Use to cover door knobs so toddlers can't get into certain rooms.

Paint and glitter as ornaments to place in a bowl or container. Add ribbon or lace and they actually are quite pretty!

Any other ideas????????

Good evening.  I was just surfing the ivillage message boards, looking for someplace that was positive and fun, when I saw the "Eco-Friendly Living" board.  Thought I would stop by and read some.  I became very curious when I saw the title to this thread.

I do have a question before I add anything.  The #1. Fluff laundry.  I have heard of this before and have always wondered what that meant.  When I take clothes out of the dryer, they are "fluffed" anyway.  How does the ball differ?

Now I have heard of putting one in the dryer with a freshly washed pillow, to bounce the fibers around in the pillow, to keep it "fluffed" vs. matted.

I also enjoy taking a couple of tennis balls and placing inside a clean sock (tube socks work great), tying off the end and putting it between my back and an inside door entry.  Press against the balls and gradually work them down your back giving yourself a massage.  Be careful not to overdo this and make yourself sore...lol.

They are also better dog balls than the usual pet balls, because they bounce better.  If your dog likes to jump and catch the ball, the tennis balls work better.

That hint was from the magazine and I've never done it. Sounds like it would be noisy! And you make a valid point....my laundry is usually fluffed without that, too! Maybe they use them to fluff towels after they've been on the line? Using the non-heat cycle?
