Our leaves are so wet and soggy they won't be blowing anywhere...except off the trees, still! Maybe if you wet yours down??????
17. One of the best costumes we ever came up with used a suit jacket of mine, son's slacks and dress shirt and shoes, and old pair of glasses with the lenses removed and a briefcase with IRS taped on it in big letters. All the people said he was the scariest thing to come to their house.....and he raked in a full briefcase of candy.
18. For an inexpensive beard, smear petroleum jelly on the face and then apply old coffee grounds. Looks really cool!
19.To make bruises, apply suntan lotion and use color negatives pressed on to it. Now, I have negatives from some posters that I use, not absolutely sure a regular negative will produce the same results.
20. Old sheets can become ghosts or mummies. Be sure, however, to cut a hole for the head and then use talcum or baby powder to whiten the face. You can top the costume off with the circle you cut for the neck....but this prevents blocking peripheral vision, unlike just cutting eye holes. The mummies are simple....just tear the sheet into strips and wind it around the body of the kiddo....leaving a little slack at knees and elbows!
21. Give out small gift certificates to your local used book store, if they do that. With the small number of kids we get, we can give each one a book or TWO and encourage reading while recycling books. $1 certificates will do that!
22. Quick and easy thing to do....use thick tempra paint to paint your front window......you can make ghosts, bats, etc. or just bloody handprints using your own hands. Protect the sills and avoid getting any on painted surfaces. Washes off easily and you can even add a few footprints on the porch (ours is cement so it won't stain).
23. Set a table in front of the window and fill wine glasses with red jello to look like blood. The jello is still edible of course.
24. The picture I attached above also shows some black cats.....again, you can reuse the bags and recycle the newspaper you fill them with.
25. Oh, and re: #22......you can also use stencils to make the designs.....happier symbols like smiling jack-o-lanterns!
26. Save those seeds from cleaning out the pumpkin.......wash, and bake in the oven at 325 for 15-20 minutes until slightly browned. You now have pumpkin seeds for yourself or the birds or wild animals you might feed. Salt them only if they are for you....the birds don't need that salt!
27. Hang an old pair of curtains, or an old sheet instead of your regular drapes.....tatter it up some or stain it with tea or coffee. Use a small fan to make the curtains blow as if the window was broken out....
28. Set the mood with creepy music. There are lots of legitimate places to download on the internet or you can buy inexpensive CDs of creaking doors, howling winds, wolf cries and etc.
29. Cut the very top off of an orange or several oranges. Scoop out the orange inside and save for a salad or just eating. Using a permanent marker, draw jack-o-lantern faces on them as mini pumpkins. Set along the window sill with a piece of foil under them in case there are orange juice drips. Add birthday candles if you want.
30. Consider donating leftover treats (candy, toys, pencils or whatever) to a local school for classroom rewards. Some of the candy treats would also be welcomed at Alzheimer's homes and all those items are in need for women's shelters.
Okay, everyone....add on and let's see if we CAN make 100 by Halloween.....
