It seems that everything we've been doing recently is electronics-related!

First, last winter we had ice dams on the roof which lead to a leak in the attic and the new bedroom! So two weekends ago, BIL and DH installed roof mounted heating cables like these:
http://www.heatersplus.com/roof.htm
There are issues with using them:
http://www.naturalhandyman.com/iip/infxtra/infdam.html
So I asked DH and he and BIL plan to switch out a light socket at the garage door for a ground-circuit interrupted plug and the cables will only be functional when there is snow predicted.

A month ago, we had a guest who asked for iced water when I offered drinks. Well, the fridge didn't deliver water through the door. Took a while but DH finally pulled the fridge out from the wall and we found the leak --- it was underneath so we called in a repairman. Turns out the tubing that carries the water to the reservoir had cracked from heat from the compressor --- because the fan on the compressor had stopped. So, an entirely new reservoir and tubing system (like in cars, nothing is sold in pieces these days) *and* a new fan: $300! Oh well, cheaper than a new compressor and the fridge has a few more years on it. It did get us looking into prices on new fridges through. WOW! Nearly $3000 for an LG Stainless French door model!

And while we were waiting for the new fridge part, DH's satellite box gave up the ghost so while the fridge repairman was here, i was fielding calls from the satellite man! I don't know exactly what happened but the box got so hot that it burned the access card one has to insert in the control box that lets the satellite people know which customer is which! So, be warned, if you have satellite and stations tend to come in and out, your control box could well be on the way out! It was their box so they replaced it...

Here's hoping three electronic issues in a month is our quota!

Edited to add: My hopes are not fulfilled. DH's stereo speaker is making funny noises so the television in the living room is now monaural... And the kitchen door sensor in our security system is on the fritz AGAIN! This makes the fourth time in six years that sensor is sending out a default signal! Wonder what else is going to go wrong!

What else is going to go wrong?

How about the light fixture in the pantry which REFUSES to light even though there is nothing wrong with the bulbs?

I swear the electron imps of the world have it in for me!

Gosh Carol it sounds like all your electronics are going haywire HA HA.
Weve been having some issues as well. About 6 weeks ago while we were all in bed asleep our home alarm went off. DH & I got up, checked the kids, house, yard all the while the home alarm company was on the phone with me telling me the police were on the way. I said no everything looks fine no need to send the police & we went back to bed.
Just as I was falling back into that deep sleep it happened a 2nd time, we went through the whole making sure everything was okay again, telling alarm co not to send police & went back to bed again kinda moody about all this.
10 minutes later the alarm went off again, this time we were getting po-ed.
So the next morning I called the alarm company and they had to come out, they claim there was nothing wrong but replaced some sensors anyway & its been fine since.

About a month ago our motion light on the shed wouldnt work, even with new bulbs! Then one evening while DH & I were in the back yard it came on all by itself!!! It seems to have fixed itself.
Electronics are great but sometimes they seem to have a mind of their own hua?

Now my mom & dad just moved and asked us if we would like to have their surround sound system for our livingroom. I told them yes I'd love to have it, I've wanted a SS for years. Well they say were going to have to hire an electrician to hook it up!!! I think DH & I will be able to figure out the basics & if theres something we cant figure out we can probably find it online. The onlly issue we'll have is we cant run the wires through our attic. Our attic has a peak at the top which you have to belly crawl through, as each end goes down you can just forget about getting back there. The only way we would be able to run wires in the ceiling would be to find a trained rat, have him put the wire in his mouth and tell him where to go put it LOL. So this is going to be an interesting project to say the least. Do you want to come help? HA HA

Now the icemaker in the fridge has quit working! OMG!

Sorry Pamela, but I don't know any trained rats and my cats refuse to cooperate! As for hiring an electrician --- Dh has a specialist to help him with his SS system. There are these computer programs and the like --- very complicated!

So you dont know of any trained rats hua? Shucks.
I know this surround sound system is going make me crazy but we'll get it done.
WE've not even picked it up from moms yet & I'm already stressing over it because I saw your post about electronics & it reminded me...........
