Hello everyone, my name is Rochelle and married to DH. We have 2 pets. Kelpie x German shepherd and a cat. We from Perth Australia.

I need help desperately. We on a strict budget because we in bad debt and Public Trustee is dealing with our bills and so far he saved up almost $1000.

Monday we get: $36

Wednesday we get: $109 and

Friday we get: $54.

That all we get for the whole week. I struggle badly with grocery shopping and constantly have to return things. I can't never get enough food which doesn't last a week.  I be forever grateful for advice and tips.

Rochelle

I, like you, am in a very similar situation. I became unemployed in 2008 I did find another job, but at a very drastic reduction in pay . This past Oct I filed Chapter 13 bankruptcy, meaning I'll end up repaying a % of my debts. That was the only way I could save my home. So now that I have filed and my repayment is being drafted out of my already crappy pay check I have very little to live on. I ended up rehoming several of my pets and getting roommates. Because I also work 3rd shift I'm also able to do odd jobs durring the day to bring in extra income. By getting roommates I have been able to likewise cut back on groceries because many of the meals we make can be eaten as leftovers, frozen, or turned into another meal. We try to buy in bulk when possible esp when it comes to meat and i repackage and freeze in portioned packages. Now that the weather is cooling of here I have started using a fire place i had not used since I moved in and am now able to save $ by using a alternitive heat source. I have also unhooked my dryer( it's electric, not gas), plugged up the vent and vented the dryer back into the house to "reuse" the heat I would otherwise be blowing outside. I don't know if any for these ideas will help you but please understand you are not the only one in this situation it took me a long time to figure out I wasn't the only one it just felt that way. Hang in there!

Have you checked with a professional to see if its ok to vent the dryer back into the house?  If you have ever looked at the outside vent, it has to be cleaned regularly because there is lint that doesnt get caught in the inside lint trap.  You could be filtering air contaminants back into your house, and perhaps issues with carbon dioxide or something.   Its also a fire hazzard. I'm no expert, but i would assume theres a reason for an outside vent to begin with, probably a safety reason!

edited:  I just looked online, there are various sources that say you must vent the dryer outside!  the moisture causes mold growth in the home, air contaminants, and the loose lint is a huge fire hazzard!

why are you returning things?  I'm a little confused.  Rather than saying what you get each day for the week, tell us what your grocery budget is and what kinds of foods you like and where you are running into the problem.  Is it just in shopping or in everything overall?   Read some of these threads, the best way to fix things is to have a plan.  Plan your meals, plan around the sales, make meals that are economical and can be reheated for leftovers or frozen for later.  things like pasta dishes, casseroles, etc.

Returning things means you take it back to get your money back.

The food we like is Pasta, chicken, beef and meat. Pretty much anything. Our weekly budget is roughly $203 per week. That including pet food and toiletries as well.
