And considering what it was, we are VERY lucky.

The bulb in DD's night light had gone out, so she replaced it.  But she used the wrong kind of bulb.  In turn, having it on all day while we were in Atlanta last week caused the bulb to burn a hole through the plastic face plate on the electric outlet.  The smell had gone away when we cleaned out the room, and the night light was off.  But then came back when she turned it on the following evening.

Last night when I went to turn it on, I saw the area that had burned due to the light bulb.  It could have easily set her entire room on fire.

I guess today will be spent finding DD a lamp to use, instead of the plug in night light.  And also buying a new plastic face plate for her electric outlet.

Oh Man!!! I am SO SO SO glad that didn't turn into a fire! You are right, you are so lucky! That would have freaked me out!

We use night lights that are sensitive to light so we don't have to worry about turning it on and off. In DSS's room we have one that is multi-colored and has one of those tiny bulbs (like the size of one in the dome light of a car) and it is INSIDE the light. Around the house we have the Air Fresheners that also have a light behind the oil that is sensitive to light. So it smells good and it provides light. I think they are from Glade, I get them from Wal-Mart. We also have one that is a LED light (also light sensitive) and it is blue, another Wal-Mart purchase. Just some ideas ;-)

We will probably just get DD a bedside lamp, which would also give her the option to read at night, if she so chooses.

This one usually takes small little bulbs, but the one she had in it burned out.  So, she replaced it with a bulb that we use for our Dining Room Chandelier.

Im just glad we know what it was, and it wasnt something that literally died under the house.  Im also glad we didnt burn down the house!

Yikes, talk about a scare. I would of been freaking out more than a little bit. I am glad you were able to find the cause and that it didnt do too much damage.

So did DD get a new lamp yet?
