Do you find yourself using the same kind of yarn over and over?

I was just wondering because I went to buy yarn today for a baby blanket for a friend's new little one (due in January), and --even though I purused the whole isle and felt the texture and weight of just about every yarn, I found myself going to the same kind I always get. I like Claron Simply Soft yarn a lot, as well as Lion's Choice Brand Vannah's Choice Baby. I think I have just about every color Michael's sells of each yarn.

I'm enjoying exploring things too much, and am trying to figure out how to choose the right stuff for a project. I've made a couple sets of mittens out of 100% superwash wool, I inherited some decade-old Norwegian wool; I bought some bamboo from a discount bin (mistake; no good project out of that), some cotton (dishcloths), various sock-yarn blends, alpaca, camel and some really cheap acrylic for teaching & toys.

Some time I may get into cotton crochet thread for lace, too.

Hi! Devin,

I don't have one favorite yarn.  Caron Simply Soft, Caron's One Pounder, Red Heart, Hobby Lobby's I Love This Yarn are yarns that I've used and been very happy with.   The same with sport weight yarns there are a number of them that I will use.  One yarn that I have no intention of buying again is Lion Brand's Homespun yarn.

As for crochet thread I don't have a preference with that but it seems most of the time Aunt Lydia's Classic Cotton is what's available when I buy it.

I agree with you. I'm an experimenter and I'm always up for trying something new. I tend to buy specifically for projects and that will largely govern the type of yarn I look for but not the specific yarn. Though I'm not above buying an occasion skein on spec LOL!

I've only been back into crocheting for about a year now (after a 20 plus year period of not having the time or interest), so I don't know yet. I am still exploring the wonderful world of yarn!

So far I've used a lot of Red Heart Super Saver because it is what is available in the most colors at Walmart. I made an afghan in Caron Simply Soft and liked how nice it came out. I used Lion Brand Cotton Ease for a baby afghan and liked that, too.

I've always loved wools and cottons so am looking to make something with a wool blend (Lion Brand Wool Ease feels really nice). And I want to make some baby blankets so would like to try Vanna's baby yarn because it comes in such pretty colors.

I'm going to Michaels on Saturday so can't wait to check out the yarns!!!
