Question from a Newbie

Hi everyone.

I'm a novice knitter (I knit, don't purl, and I can't figure out crochet to save my life).

I have "inherited" some pink sport weight chenille.  It is very delicate and thin and I can't figure out how to turn it into anything.  Has anyone worked with this material?   Does anyone have a pattern or project that this material may be good for?

Thanks in advance!

Jacie

Ok. I had to look up chenille.  (I know more about fancy stitching than types of yarn/fiber). If I had something like that, I might make it into a thin scarf or try knitting it very tightly (maybe even on a loom) to make a hat. For the scarf you could probably use relatively large needles and make it very light.

If wrist-warmers are your style, and you're ready to work in the round, that would work, too.

Free advice: Learn to purl soon; that will seriously open up your options.

Here's a youtube.com video on how to purl if you want to learn! Its really very easy -- if you can knit you can purl! :-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAMD_XpybQY

Hi Jacie,

Welcome to the board.  Thanks for dropping in and I hope we see you around often.  If you can, please post some of your projects so we can admire them.

Robin and Devin have given you some helpful ideas and probably some of the other knitters on the board will chime in with other helpful hints.  I don't knit so I can't help you out much.

Hi Jacie and Welcome! I love chenille and especially love a chenille scarf. Let us know what you decide to make!
