school is back in session and i was curious about everyone's shopping habits. did you find that you spent more/less/the same as previous years? did you buy the same things or different supplies? did you get any great deals? what was the most expensive thing you had to buy?

I was pleasantly surprised with my back to school shopping this year. The supplies for my son were less expensive this school year; I think they've decided to keep it simple with one divided binder instead of scads of composition books. Since he wears uniforms, that also helped keep the cost down. The most expensive thing I bought was a new wheeled backpack; it ran about $45 but it should last him at least three years like the last one did.

As for deals, I always buy a case or two of composition books when they're 10 cents each! LOL He may not have needed them this year, but I use them myself and I'm a bit of an office supply junkie, so notebooks and pens on sale are something I just can't pass up. ;-)

Hmm... We still have a lot of things from last year, so I barely got my nephew anything this year. I did get him some textbooks, but those were not on the teacher's list (in fact, there's no teacher's list at all). He's using the same school bag, he still has the same lunch bag. He did get a pair of new shoes which his parents got him, and a set of uniform.

I am seriously looking into buying stock in a factory that makes pencils and erasers as he always loses these!

Since I don't have kids and aren't in school myself, my shopping didn't reflect the back-to-school season. I needed new walking shoes as the soles were coming off my old ones but otherwise, I didn't spend a lot of $$$...

About the same as normal, but DW is relentless when it comes to getting really good deals on back to school clothes for our kids, which tend to be the most expensive component.
