I don't understand this......I disputed my Capital One account standings. Because it said, IIB/Charged Off.

They said it has been updated, and now it states:

Account History:
Charge Off as of Jun 2005
30 days as of May 2005
Debt included in Bankruptcy on July 04, 2005

Can they charge me off that fast? I filed June 6, shouldn't it have showed IIB before it was even charged off? I'm confused. Well, if it was charged off, I won't be getting a credit card from them ever. They already denied me credit because I applied, before I realized it was charged off.

Is this normal? This sucks. It was the only CC to be "charged off". What should I do? Should I talk to Capital One? Is there anything I can do? I think I just made my credit report WORSE by disputing the information? Do you think they did this to "get back at me"? Seems a bit odd, don't you think?

Also, for anyone who wants to use a tracking system for their credit report, don't use creditexpert.com via Experian. ALL my BK accounts show as being "charged off", when in reality, the TRUE report only shows IIB. I think I'm going to switch over to myfico.com for awhile (however, here in CA, we use Experian the most, that's why I went with creditexpert.com).

The dates are all wrong and I would dispute the charge off. The account was included in bankruptcy June 2005 and the account has been closed effective June 2005. Make sure your bankruptcy filing date is also correct in the public records section of your credit file (June 2005) and you can use that as a basis of contention. That is the date of record, not the date the creditor wants to report.

Think of it this way: once you report the error and correction, the creditor and the credit reporting agency need to prove you did not file June 2005. The bankruptcy date is the date the account was included in bankruptcy and closed. That's all there is to it.

Let us know how your dispute goes. It's a pain, I know, but it's wrong and you want it corrected without delay.

Hope this helps.

Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn,

I didn't even think about using the public filing as a backup. I was wondering how I was going to contest the date of filing, versus the date they say I filed, etc. Duh!

Okay, going to go dispute this again. Could you help me with the wording? I'm not sure what to say. But first, I'm going to see what the public filing says. and I'll be back.

Thanks!!

What they say:
Account History:
Charge Off as of Jun 2005
30 days as of May 2005
Debt included in Bankruptcy on July 04, 2005

The truth! lol. j/k
Public files shows filed as of 6/8/05

So. I would write something of the following:

I filed BK on 6/8/05 as stated in the public records, therefore, cap one would've been closed in june 05, and the debt IIB in june 05, NOT July 05, due to the BK, not because of a charge-off. Therefore, there should be no charge-off.

OR what in the world do you write? lol.
