rahammy,

Can you give some tips on getting started paying off such a large amount?? I have read Dave ramsey's book and just can't get the logs rolling. I have 4 cards with high balances (around 80,000 + total)and if I try to not pay less then the minimum on one one month to pay another; the one I didn't pay full doubles their minimum for the next month.  It just feels like a losing battle.

Did you call amex and work out a deal with them?

I read your post and just had to reply.  I too am looking for a legit debt management company.  I have $60K in debt.  I bought the Dave Ramsey book too but I do not have even a little left over to start.  Like you, when I am late or do not pay the full amount on a card like BOA - they double the amount.  Which is crazy because I can't afford the miniumum payment much less the double one.  Let me know what you find out.

I belong to a debt managment plan thru CCCS now called Money Management International. I found them thru Suze Ormans books and website. They have helped me a ton and so far I have paid off about $2500 of my debt that I just couldn't get a handle on myself without the help. It's worth giving them a shot.
