Our retirement is getting close but I find we are not at all ready.  Hubby has a 401K but it took a big hit with the down turn in the economy.  We werern't as ready as we should have been anyway.

I try to be thrifty, with everything, but I still wonder how we will ever retire.

Pretend that you do not know when, or if, you will get a paycheck.  That was our constant inspiration to save.  Because we worked for ourselves, everyone else got paid first.  In the beginning, there were no paychecks for us, and when the economy was bad, there were no paychecks for us.

There are many who's retirement funds took a major hit back in the '80's, then again with the dot'com bust, and again now. I suspect retirement is just not going to be an option for many folks, not just a select few.

However, some are changing careers so they can be doing something they love that earns money. So, even if they are working, at least it's a job they are happy at.

It's a thought.
