OH MY GOODNESS - My bank failed!!!
HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I went to double-check my bank account balance so as to pay my credit card on-line that is due on Wednesday of course.
All of a sudden I see "Welcome to US Bank" -- and get to read this
"On Friday, October 30, 2009, ******, Chicago, IL was closed by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Subsequently, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) was named Receiver. No advance notice is given to the public when a financial institution is closed."
It wasn't as if US Bank *bought* our bank -- NOPE -- the FDIC took it over!
I just checked the account over the weekend as a matter of fact. I don't know if I can make an electronic transfer now or not.
My kids have their passport savings bank accounts there too, etc... It sounds like it's going to re-open as US Bank anyway -- which might be OK, we have a branch close to us anyway. I think I'm going to change banks though. DH has been using a bank now for his business stuff & frankly I really like the service there. I have liked the service at my bank too but this one is closer, etc... I suppose it's a chance I take with any bank but just seems like this is as good of reason as any to change banks. I never did before because we have had an account at the original bank since we were married & it *had* changed names/closed the branch that was really close to us in the past but NEVER had the FDIC taking it over. We just stuck with them.
