discussion title:
Docs don't take you seriously?
I just noticed the board today & thought I'd try a post here.
I believe I've been suffering from Anxiety for most of my life, but was not diagnosed with it until about 5 years ago. I do suffer from it enough that I do let it control my life a bit & now I'm pretty much a home body. I do get to my appts, travel to see my family, etc., but if I can get dh to go with me & drive I am exhilerated that I don't have to go through the panic attacks. I also tend to put things off as long as possible so that I don't have to drive.
Why is it so bad when I drive? 5 years ago I had a pretty bad attack so I called ask-a-nurse & they told me not to drive, to find someone to cart me around. Ever since then I panic just driving to the grocery store.
Anyway, back to my question. Do you find that when you see a doctor that they are quick to ignore your symptoms & diagnose it as anxiety? I probably go to the dr's office about once a year, so it's not like I'm a hypochondriac(sp), yet as soon as they learn I have anxiety they don't seem to take my ailments seriously.
This isn't something I'm going through currently. It's just that I never noticed this baord before & I don't know anybody who suffers from axiety to the appoint of having flaired up attacks. I thought I'd put this question up for discussion so that perhaps, if the need arises & I go to the doc's I might be able to go better prepared.
I don't think a doctor has found me sick once in 5 years now.
