I don't believe it would be safe to deny the testing.  If GD is left uncontrolled it can cause serious harm to the baby.

Is there a reason you don't want to do the testing?  If you want more information about GD, check out the Pregnant and Diabetic board:

I am sure you could but why would you want to? I have GD and it really isn't that bad. It makes me feel better knowing I am keeping things under control and healthier for my LO. It isn't any fun to do the testing but if you do the one hour and everything is fine then it is over and there are no surprises later.

I guess my reasoning is more on the line of why do we need to do the "official glucose testing" if we have a monitor at home..and can check ourselves?

I am not diabetic nor have I had gestational diabetes before. I have, however, been blown off for diabetes testing during a pregnancy. Then when I was given the test, the dr said all was fine , that I was NOT GD and congratulated my husband as we were both concerned. Then the following day was called into dr office and told my test results were through the roof and proceeded to inform me how dire my situation was and how he planned to proceed. I reminded him we had seen him just the previous day and he gave us the results he was now saying were through the roof. He (dr) denied giving us the results the previous day. I simply asked if I could redo the test to clarify the findings as something didnt 'smel'l right. He refused to retest me but insisted I begin monitoring with a home monitor. Which I did for a month (4 times a day) and none of my results were over the suggested perimeters. This only infuriated the dr. I again asked for a repeat of the original test and again was denied...and he threatned to induce me because of all the hazards of a GD baby delivery..etc...

long story short.. I was checking glucose at home with no high readings and decided to speak with a homebirth midwife and decided on a homebirth. The baby the dr was professing would be over 10+ pounds was 7 even.

I can monitor it at home. I did so with my last 2 pregnancies which were homebirths and all was well.

I just wonder if we can forgo the"official" testing in lieu of home monitoring.

Wow. That is insane. I can't believe your doctor was that incompetent and just would not retest you. Are you using the same doctor? I am sure you can refuse the testing but maybe having it done by someone else would be better. The important thing is knowing what your blood sugar levels should be while pregnant and checking them. I hope you were given the right information last time and it came from someone other than that doctor. I would say your case is one of those rare times you might not want to have it done as long as you monitor regularly and keep it up throughout your pregnancy.
