Hello everyone!  I am 43 and just found out that I am pregnant with our second child!!! It's very early - just one week past when I should have had my period.  We conceived naturally and I have no prior history of MC, but obviously with my age it is a risk.  I did have complications towards the end of my first pregnancy.   I called my regular OB-GYN yesterday after the third positive at home test (couldn't believe the first two LOL!)  They said I didn't need to come in for another couple of weeks since "there is not much to tell before then."

I am just wondering if I should look for another practice that specializes in high risk pregnancies and older women? I have read here that some women have their hormone levels tested, take hormone supplements, etc.  Should I be more proactive here, or let nature take its course?

Thank you!  I still don't believe it and almost feel like I am jinxing things by even talking about it.  I just told my DH this morning and he is sooo excited!  Wish me luck!!

Hello and welcome!  I personally don't think there's any need to contact a perinatologist but that's just my opinion.  It may also depend on what type of complications you experienced towards the end of your first pregnancy.  It's pretty typical to not see your OB for several weeks after becoming pregnant (I didn't see mine until I was 8 weeks and I did a blood test for his office to confirm I was pregnant when I was just 4 1/2 weeks pregnant).  Maybe call your present OB's office and ask for his/her opinion about seeing a high risk doctor.  Regardless of which doctor you see, I look forward to hearing updates from you!  Congratulations on being pregnant with #2!  Please keep us posted!

Thanks Joan!  I do remember from last time that I didn't see the Dr. until I was about 7 or 8 weeks along.  I had an uneventful first trimester, but that was when I was ONLY 38 years old LOL!  My problems came around 29 weeks when I had bleeding and contractions and had to go on bed rest.  DD came at 35 weeks, but totally healthy, thank goodness.

I am already concerned because all my "symptoms" seem to have disappeared and I feel totally normal, but I just keep telling myself to take it one day at a time.

Thanks again!

Jen

I know what you mean about being scared over feeling "normal".  I have days like that, too.  I'm actually going for my first ultrasound today (for dating purposes) so I'm a bit anxious about it.  As far as seeing a specialist, I think I'd call my OB's office and get their opinion (assuming you hold his/her opinion in high regard).  I'm sending lots of sticky baby vibes your way.  Please keep us posted!

Hi I am new here. I am 46 and have three wonderful children ranging from 23 to 8. I would love to have another child and am feeling healthier and happier than I ever have in my life. I guess I am a late bloomer! I have a history of getting pregnant very easily. My partner and I went to a fertility clinic yesterday to gather information and it was a horrible experience. I filled out the health questionnaire completely honestly and the doc spent about 3 minutes with us and basically said the chances of conceiving were so slim (which I already knew) that he had no time for us. i felt as though he was making a judgement call that since I had three already I should just go away. Has anyone else had this experience? I just want to go off birth control and see what happens. Why would this be a bad idea? Any thoughts?
