I had my first screen test last Monday. The NT measured normal, but on the thick side. In my clinic up to 1.7 is considered normal, anything thicker than that is considered abnormal. Our measurement was 1.6. They took blood and I told them that I'd probably want an amnio unless the results from the first screen were questionable, and then we'd want CVS.

I expected the results on Monday and my husband and I were out of town Thursday and Friday. When I got home on Saturday there were 3 messages from my genetic counsler trying to get in touch with me to give me the results. She did not say what they were. But the last message was from the clinic saying I had an appt. on Tuesday Oct. 27th. So I'm guessing that the results were not good and she went and made a CVS appt for me. I've heard stories of people who had positive results (which means bad results) from the first screen but went on to get good results from the CVS and have healthy normal children. Let's hope that I am one of them.

I am nervous but very hopeful. I conceived through IVF and had genetic testing done prior to transfer, and that was all normal.  I wish it were tomorrow morning already so I could call the genetic counsler.

I hope everything is OK.  Let us know what the genetic counselor says.

Well my blood pressure is a little high - 140 something over 94 and I do have extra fluid : ( so they are monitoring me weekly now... The baby is measuring a week behind, but within normal.  His kidneys look really pretty good, still a little enlarged but they are not really worried about that.  One cyst disappeared but the other now has fluid, so he is now hydrocephalic ( I think that is how you spell???) His heart does not look better and is now enlarged - so overall, not a happy visit, but it really is what we kind of sort of expected ~ short of a miracle.  Just not fun but we are still hangin in there, but the doctor does not seem to have a lot of hope for a live birth.

I am so sad for you.  I know you can't fully prepare yourself for this, but I hope you are doing what you can.  I do want to reiterate that it's a long hard journey, but one that you do not have to travel alone.

I don't know if this would help you or not, but you might want to introduce yourself on the stillborn board.  (I'm not trying to be presumptive or morbid, but it might help to communicate ahead of time with those of us who've been there.)

Thinking of you and wishing I could give you a hug and more support than just a few typed words.

Joan
