Hi.  My LO is almost 11 months old.  She was diagnosed lactose intolerant very early on due to severe reactions to my BM after I would drink milk and also reactions to milk based formula.  So she has been on soy based formula since about 2.5 months and had done wonderfully.

The time is quickly approaching that we start on some "milk" and I am confused as whether to use fortified soy milk or lactose free whole milk?  I have tried searching the internet but the plethora of information is overwhelming.  My Pedi said that the choice is mine- either is OK- but that doesn't help me decide!!

If any of you have personally experience with this and can give some advice, I would appreciate it greatly!  TIA!

SOY.

I have to point out something. Babies have the enzyme that processes lactose. If they didn't they would die. Because breast milk has lactose in it. You loose that enzyme at about 6-8 years old. Biologically that's when we're(humans are) supposed to nurse until. Your milk teeth fall out then too(milk teeth, get it?). Since she reacted to your breast milk after you drank milk, I would bet money on a milk protein allergy. Which she *may* have out grown by now, some kids are only sensitive to it and it's not a full blown allergy. But I think I'd start her on soy, hemp, almond, or coconut until 2 then try cows milk. You might even be able to try goat milk, since it sounds like she may not have a full blown allergy. Talk to the doctor.
