Ok I'll give some background.  LO had milk based formula (had been EBF) when she was 4 months old and got horribly sick, puked for over 24 hours straight.  Her pedi recommended Gentlease and it did the same thing to her.  A nurse recommended we try soy formula.  It also made her sick for 11 straight hours, with the added bonus of awful, un-natural smelling diarrhea.  I convinced myself there must be something in the actual formula making her sick so I gave her a spoonful of yogurt and 4 hours later she puked about 5 times and got lethargic.

That was several months ago and since then I've just been avoiding giving her any dairy or soy.  But she's not so sensitive that she can't having something that has soybean oil or soy letchithin in it....like Ritz crackers or bread.  This morning I gave her about 6-7 bites of all-beef bologna.  Four hours later (weird about the 4 hour thing) she threw up a small amount and was pitiful right before she puked.  I was waiting for the throw-up fest to begin but after the small puke she perked back up and has held down several ounces of Pedialyte.  Usually she holds nothing down for more than a minute when she's sick.

Does this indicate a beef allergy?  If so, is it just less severe than her milk/soy allergy?  Or do you think she might just be outgrowing it (wishful thinking here)?  She never throws up on a regular basis or anything...only when she's been in contact with an allergen.

Instead of beef bologna, I would try pure beef to see if there is a true allergy. Like straight from the package beef that you cook yourself. If she doesn't chew well yet, you could stick it in the blender to see.

Let us know how she does :)

Ashlie,

I would bet my life your LO has FPIES. This is a classic reaction, kids with FPIES have a classic reaction time of about 3 - 4 hours and can cause life threatening shock. They should be treated with IV fluids and meds to keep their BP up.  I would seek a Pedi GI and a Pedi Allergist right away.  You can email me at katrina.pelters@yahoo.com and I can give you the information on our group.  Oh and the bologna, it's made with a milk protien, most lunch meat is. I would avoid all lunch meats, etc.  Apple Gate Farms makes hotdogs, lunch meat, etc that is soy and dairy free.  Good luck!!!

Hi, Ashlie. I recognize you from the HH board-- I didn't realize that your HH was having problems with dairy and soy. I'm sorry that you have to come here, but since you do, it is a good starting place for advice. I hope that you get to the bottom of Stella's problems. My DS #2 has food allergies and so does my HH, so if I can ever be of help, feel free to email me through my profile. Welcome to the board.
